About the Ropes
Customer Service
Couldn't I just buy this rope at the hardware store?
Possibly. However, beyond the fact that most hardware stores don't stock 2" or even 1.5" diameter rope, if they do, it unlikely matches the quality of our 3-strand grade-A ropes. In addition to our quality control regarding the rope itself, we take the time to install double layered non-fraying rubber handles for each rope product. Lastly, since we buy our ropes bulk in enormous spools, our prices are tough to beat.
What size undulation rope would be best for me?
A common question, but a tough one to answer since we all have different bodies and abilities. As a rule of thumb, 30 foot legths are good for kids, 40 foot lengths work well for average adults, and 50 foot lengths are appropriate for stronger males or any well conditioned athlete.
Rope diameter is comes down to upper body strength. If you are an endurance athete or someone primarily interested in getting a cardio workout, 1.5" diameter rope is ideal. 2" ropes are HEAVY! These ropes work well for those interested in building explosive strength and power. If you can't perform a pushup or a pull-up, you may not be ready for the 2" rope just yet.
How can I best maintain my ropes?
Two issues come up most often. One is that the center of the rope (the section that gets looped or anchored) frays. This usually happens because the rope was looped around an object containing a right angle, and the constant undulation simply wears it down. To avoid this, simply be sure to only loop your rope around smooth objects. Also, you could consider applying some duct tape or discharge tubing (the material they use for washing machines and dishwashers) to the middle 2 feet of your rope.
The second issue typically occurs with trainers who use their rope with a great number of clients. Because there is so much force pulling the rope away from you (that's why it's hard after all!), the top rubber handle may come loose. Again, a bit of duct tape, which you may need to reapply every few months, will easily remedy this situation.
In addition, always keep your ropes dry, avoid extended exposure to direct sunlight, and in the event that you do see fraying, you should not use that rope to suspend body weight or any object which could fall and cause injury.
